Southwark

Depositions of Witness taken at the Parish
of Saint Thomas within the Town and Borough
of Southwark in the County of Surrey this twenty
first day of September 1796 on view of the Body
of Joseph Guy< no role > now here lying Dead

Joseph Busby< no role > of St. Thomas Hospital Southwark Apothecary
maketh oath that about eight oClock on Saturday Evening last the deced
was brought to St. Thomas's Hospital . that he was taken into one of the
Wards Dept examined him that he appeared to be intoxicated. that
two of his lower Ribs on the left side were fractured, also one of the
Bones of his left Arm was fractured-that the deced voided a great
deal of Blood by Stool from Dept. is of opinion he had received some
internal injury-that he was quite incapable of giving any account
of himself on of what had happened-Dept. applied bandager to the
deceds injuries & bled himthat the next Morning Sunday Dept.
saw the deced again that he then appeared to be dying-Dept
understood the deced departed this Life between twelve and one
same Day-Dept. has no doubt but the aforesaid fractures and
the internal injury the deced had reced occasioned his Death.

Mary Richards< no role > Sister of Henrys Ward< no role > St. Thomas's Hospital
maketh oath & saith that the deced was brought into her Ward about
eight oClock on Saturday Eveng last-that he was in the date descriped
by the last Witness-That the next Morning Sunday last Dept. asked
the deced how he was deced say he thought his inside so much hurt
he could not live many hours longer-Dept. asked him how he
came by the her its he had reced he sayed he was with his Master
Cart and Horses and that the Horse took bright that he endeavoured
to stop it that he fell down and the Cart went over him & he
thought his inside was much hurt. that he departed this Life
about twelve oClock same Day.

William Eustace< no role > of the Borough Market Tallow Chandler maketh
Oath & saith that the deced left his house about seven oClock on
Saturday [..] Eveng last with a Cart drawn by two Horses belonging
to Wm. Slater< no role > of Tothill fields Westmr. Melton that he had some
of Depts. Goods in the Cart. that he was very much intoxicated and
appeared in capable of doing any business wt. was-that he threw some
Money & papers on Depts. Compter Dept. gathered the papers and
four Guineas & half in Money up that the deced was to insensible he
didn't know Dept. had got it
