<p n="128">In obedience to an Order made at the Generall Quarter Sessions<lb></lb>
of the Peace on Wednesday the 2d day of December last upon hearing the<lb></lb>
Appeale of Docter Bennett Viccar of the Parish of St. Gyles without Cripplegates<lb></lb>
London, complaining of his being over Rated to the poore there, for his Tythes<lb></lb>
and the Rent of his house, I have made Inquiry into the value of<lb></lb>
the said Doctors Fyths for that part of the said Parish as is within London<lb></lb>
and have examined the Originall Tyth book of the Parish, and do find<lb></lb>
the whole Fyths claymed by the said Doctor for that part of the said parish<lb></lb>
and charged in the said Tyth booke do amount to Three hundred eighty<lb></lb>
one pounds. Eighteen shillings and ten pence, A Coppy of which Originall<lb></lb>
Tyth Book I have Caused to be delivered to the Churchwardens of the said parish<lb></lb>
for their perusall and inspection, to which I have not received any<lb></lb>
objections on the part of the Churchwardens or any others, And I defind<lb></lb>
that in the said Tyth booke, there are above five hundred houses of very poore<lb></lb>
Inhabitants, charged to Pay Tyth, and many others who refuse to Pay<lb></lb>
pleading Custom as not having paid for many pares, By which meanes it<lb></lb>
appeares to me the Doctor doth not collect or receive of the said Tythes<lb></lb>
any more than two hundred and eight pounds at the most in any one<lb></lb>
yeare, except that this present yeare & since the making of this Rate, the<lb></lb>
Doctor having exhibited a bill in the Exchequer against severall Defaulters<lb></lb>
hath recovered or received thereby Five pounds thirteen shillings & four<lb></lb>
pence, and if that be added to the said £208, makes together £213:13s:4d<lb></lb>
And I do find that the Doctor payes three pounds yearly for Tenths and<lb></lb>
eight pounds thirteene shillings and four pence yearly to the Deane and<lb></lb>
Chapter of St Pauls And if two thirds of those two Sumes. (which is the pporcon<lb></lb>
of the Tyths of that part of the Parish as is within the freedom compared to that without)<lb></lb>
be allowed to be Deducted, being £7:15s:6d and Twenty pounds<lb></lb>
sixteen shillings the Charges of Collecting, it reduces the Nett value of<lb></lb>
the said Doctors Tyths to One hundred eighty five pounds one shilling &<lb></lb>
ten pence or thereabouts</p>
<p n="129">I have also viewed and inquired into the value of the said Doctors<lb></lb>
house, which standing backwards in Crowder well ally cannot in my<lb></lb>
Judgement be valued at more than Thirty pounds P ann, and at<lb></lb>
that rate it will be Charged more in pporcon that other houses of the like<lb></lb>
goodness in the present Poores rate</p>
<p n="130">All which is submitted to the Judgement of this honoble. Court</p>
