Articles of the Peace exhibited by Frances the Wife of Barnet Connery against the said
Barnet Connery now a Prisoner in the Custody of the Keeper of the Poultry Compter in the City of
London through fear of Death or of receiving some bodily Harm.

First

This Articulant upon her Oath saith that the said Barnet Connery having frequently beat and otherwise
ill treated and threatened the life of this Articulant since their Marriage she this Articulant in or about the Month
of January one thousand seven hundred and Eighty four preferred an Indictment against the said Barnet Connery
at the Session of the peace for the City of London for assaulting her this Articulant and in the Month of February
following the said Barnet Connery was tried and convicted upon the said Indictment but the said Barnet
Connery having executed Articles of Seperation between him and this Articulant and also executed a Bond
to Roger Nott this Articulants Trustee in the penalty of Four hundred pounds to perform the Covenants in the
said Articles of Seperation contained the said Barnet Connery was thereupon fined one shilling and discharged
And this Articulant saith that for many years she this Articulant hath maintained the said Barnet Connery
by her own Industry but since the Execution of the said Articles she hath maintained the said Barnet Connery
in a Lodging seperate and apart from this Articulant

Secondly

This Articulant upon her Oath further saith that in the Month of November one thousand seven hundred
and eight five the said Barnet Connery frequently threatened the life of this Articulant in so much that this
Articulant for the precuration thereof was under the necessity of exhibiting Articles of the peace against the
said Barnet Connery at the Session of the peace for the City of London in the Month of December last and
which Articles were allowed at the said Session and the said Barnet Connery entered into a Recognizance
to keep the peace towards this Articulant for the space of One year.

Thirdly

This Articulant upon her Oath said that after the exhibiting of the said Articles of the peace she this
Articulant continued to maintain the said Barnet Connery seperate and apart from this Articulant And
this Articulant saith that the said Barnet Connery having conducted himself more peaceably towards this
Articulant than he had for many years she this Articulant was in hopes that he would have so continued
and in Expectation thereof she this Articulant took a Shop near the Shop of this Articulant for the said
Barnet Connery and this Articulant expended upwards of seven Pounds in the purchasing second hand
Boots and Shoes in order that the said Barnet Conney mightsell the same in such Shop and might
thereby be enabled to Carry on some Business towards his own support And this Articulant still continued
to maintain the said Barnet Connery and to pay the Rent for the said Shop But the Articulant saithes
that immediately after the said Barnet Connery was in possession of the said Shop he began to renew his
ill treatment of this Articulant and frequently threatened her life.

Fourthly

This Articulant upon her Oath saith that or about the sixthday of September last the said
Barnet Connery came into this Articulants She and demanded to have this Articulants Furniture
and this Articulant through fear not going him any Answer the said Barnet Connery with a Knife
