Hammond Cross< no role > This name instance is in set 230. Esqr with whom an agreement had been made by the Justices at
a proceeding Session on the part of the County of Middlesex for a piece of
pound on which to erect a Session house having made application to this Court to
[..] on his own behalf with respect concerning to the same was called in and the Court having heard
his allegations both with respect to the pretended expence and trouble which he
had been at in regard to the said agreement and his desire of a pecuniary
compensation for releasing the Gentlemen from the same and being then desired to
withdraw and it appearing to this Court that Mr. Cross had before any conveyance
could be made by the proper Officer agreable to the said agreement [..] taken back
the deeds from which the same was to be drawn and that he had frequently and to
more than one person declared that he did not think himself at all bound by the
said order or agreement but at full liberty to dispose of the said ground to any other
it was resolved that the answer to Mr Cross be That Mr Cross having taken his deeds
out of the possession of the Clerk of the peace while a proper conveyance was preparing It is the
opinion of the Court that Mr Cross by so doing has vacated the agreement Upon which
Mr Cross being called in the Chairman in his seat read the proceeding opinion of
the Court to Mr Cross who thereupon desired that he might have his proposal delivered
back unto them and that he would return the order of Court thereupon It is ordered
by the [..] that Sir John Hawkins< no role > in whose possession the said proposal now is
or desired to return to Mr Cross his proposal And immediately afterwards
the aforesaid agreement was reciprocally by the said Mr Cross and the Gentlemen
present on the part of the County of Middlesex declared to be vacated null and
void

I Report being made unto this Court by the Committee of his Majesty's
Justices of the peace for the said County appointed by an Order of Session
of the Twenty second day of April last for the immediate and effectual Rep [..]
of New Prison and Clerkenwell Bridewell That in pursuance
of the further powers to the said Committee given by the order of
Session of the 9th of September last the said Committee had taken into Consideration
the duty and Salary of the Chaplain to be appointed to New Prison
refferred to the said Committee and had come to the following resolution
thereon (vizt) 1st That there should be one Chaplain appointed to perform
religious Duty in New Prison Qndle. That the duty of the said Chaplain should
be as fellows To read the morning prayer with the Litany on Tuesdays &
Thursdays in every week at the Hour of 10 in the Morning To read the
Morning prayer every Sunday at 8 O'Clock in the Morning To read the
Evening prayer and preach a Sermon every Sunday at 6 O'Clock
