John Edge Tomlinson< no role > Indicted
by the name of Edward Tomlinson< no role >
at the suit of
The Lord the King}


And John Edge Tomlinson who is above Charged in the said Indictment by the name of
Edward Tomlinson< no role > cometh here in Court in his proper person and having heard the said
Indictment read saith that he is the person in the said Indictment mentioned and intended
by the names of Edward Tomlinson and the said John Edge Tomlinson prays Judgment of
the said Indictment because he says that on the day of preferring of the said Indictment and always from the time of his Baptism
hicherto he the said John Edge Tomlinson was called [..] names of John Edge Tomlinson and not by the names of Edward
Tomlinson And by the names of John Edge Tomlinson hicherto always was and still is called and known
and not by the names of Edward Tomlinson as by the said Indictment is supposed And this he is
ready to verify Wherefore since he the said John Edge Tomlinson is named by the names of Edward Tomlinson in the said
Indictment he the said John Edge Tomlinson prays Judgement of the said Indictment and that he may not becompelled
to Answer the same.

John Edge Tomlinson of Great Peter Street in the Parish of Saint Margaret Westminster in the County of Middlesex Coal
Merchant who stands Indicted by the names of Edward Tomlinson< no role > late of the parish of Saint John the Evangelist Westminster in
the County of Middlesex Yeoman for the Assault mentioned in the said Indictment maketh Oath and saith that he hath read the above
written plea And saith that the Substance and matter of fact therein contained is true.

Sworn in open Court at the General Quarter Session of the peace holden for the County
of Middlesex at the Session house in and for the said County (by Adjournment) on Monday
the 24th. day of July 1786.}
