Informations taken this Thirteenth
day of September 1774 at the Parish of St.
Margaret within the Liberty of Westmr . in
the County of Middlesex upon an Inquisition
touching the death of Roger Hall< no role > lying dead
in the said Parish Liberty and County.

Thomas Stokes< no role > a Soldier in the First Regiment of
Foot Guards on his Oath saith That on Saturday last
(Sepr. 10th.) between Four & five o'Clock in the Afternoon
Dept. was walking in Hyde Park , when a Gentleman on
Horse back rode up to him and asked him if he
could Swim, saying there was a Man drowned in the
Serpentine River who had been in the Water about
half an hour, upon which Dept. went to the Serpentine
River and about six or seven Yards from the Shore
he saw the Deced lying upon his face with his
Shoulders and back part of his Head out of the Water
Says that he stripped himself and went into the
River and got hold of the Deced's Shirt and pulled
him to the Shore in the Parish of St. Margaret
Westmr . Says that the Deced appeared to be dead,
that he had his Shirt Breeches Shoes & Stockings
on, his Coat Wa [..] coat & Hat being on Shore near
the River side, Says that he afterwards helped to
carry the Deced to the Sign of the Queen's Head in
Knights bridge by the desire of Mr. Jackson a
Surgeon , who tried some Experiments in order
to recover him, without effect,
