An Inquisition Indented taken for our Sovereign Lord
the King at the Parish of St. Martin in the Fields within the Liberty of the Dean and Chapter of
the Collegiate Church of St. Peter Westminster the County of Middlesex , the Twenty third day
of Marchin the Sixteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third by the
Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth before

who being then and there duly Sworn and Charged to inquire for our said Lord the King, when, how and
by what Means the said Thomas Grimbley< no role > came to his Death, do upon their Oath say
That a Man Unknown together with Thomas Dempsey< no role > Thomas Welch< no role > James Delany< no role > Philip Corbet< no role > Dennis Sherry< no role >
Andrew Nihill< no role > and Michael Daley< no role > late of the Parish of St. Ann within the Liberty and County aforesaid
Laborers, not having the fear of God before their Eyes but being moved and seduced by the Intigation of the
Devil, on the Tenth day of Martin in the Year aforesaid with Force and Arms at the said Parish of St, Ann
within the Liberty and County aforesaid in and upon the said Thomas Grimsley< no role > in the Peace of God and
of our said Lord the King then and there being feloniously wilfully and of their Malrie afore thought
did make an Assault And that the said Man unknown with a certain Ax made of Iron and Steel with a
Wooden Handle of the Value of one Shilling which he the said Man unknown then and there had and held in
both his Hands him the said Thomas Grimsley< no role > in and upon the Head of him the said Thomas Grimsley< no role >
did then and there feloniously wilfully and of his Malice afore thought strike and beat And that the said
Man unknown with the Ax aforesaid by the Striking and beating aforesaid did then and there give unto
him the said Thomas Grimsley< no role > in and upon the Head of him the said Thomas Grimsley< no role > divers mortal
Wounds and Fracture, of which said Mortal Wounds and Fractures he the said Thomas Grimsley< no role > from
the said Tenth day of March in the Year aforesaid until the Twenty first day of the same Month in the
same Year, at the said Parish of St. Ann , and also at the Parish of St. George Hanover Square within the
Liberty and County aforesaid did languish and languishing did live, on which said Twenty first day of
March in the Year aforesaid at the said Parish of St. George Hanover Square within the Liberty and County
aforesaid he the said Thomas Grimsley< no role > of the Mortal Wound and Fractures aforesaid did die. and the
Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say that the said Thomas Dempsey< no role > Thomas Welch< no role > James Delany
Philip Corbet< no role > Dennis Sherry< no role > Andrew Nihill and Michael Daley< no role > at the time of the committing of the Felony and
Murder aforesaid feloniously wilfully and of their Malice afore thought were present a betting aiding
assisting comforting and maintaining the said Man unknown to hill and Murder the said Thomas
Grimsley
< no role > in Manner aforesaid And so the Jurors aforesaid upon their Oath aforesaid do say that the said
Man unknown Thomas Dempsey< no role > Thomas Welch< no role > James Delany Philip Corbet< no role > Dennis Sherry< no role > Andrew Nihill
and Michael Daley< no role > him the said Thoams Grimsely< no role > in manner and by the means aforesaid feloniously wilfully
and of their Malice afore though did hill and Murder agaisnt the Peace of our said Lord the King his
Crown and Dignity, And that the said Man unknown Thomas Dempsey< no role > Thomas Welch< no role > James Delany
Philip Corbet< no role > Dennis Sherry< no role > Andrew Nihill and Michael Daley< no role > , nor either of them at the time of
the doing and committing the Felony and Murder aforesaid or at any time since had no Goods or Chattels Lands of
Tenements within the said Liberty or elsewhere to the Knowledge or Notice of the Said Jurors. It Witness
whereof as well the said Coroner as the said Allen Wall< no role > Foreman of the said Jurors, on the behalf of himself
and the rest of his Fellows, in their Presence, have to this Inquisition set their Hands and Seals the
Day Year and Place first above written
