first day of January 1788 at the
Parish of St. George Hanover Square
within the Liberty of Westmr . in the
County of Midsex upon an Inquisition
touching the death of a Man unknown
lying dead in the said Parish
Liberty and County.

Walter Woodward< no role > of Hask Lane near
the Water Works Bridge in the Parish of
St. George Hanover Square Laborer on his
Oath saith, That on Saturday Morning
last (Jany. 19.) about a Quarter after Seven
Dept. was in his Father's Yard, and heard
something fall into the River thereby
the Bridge , upon which Dept. went upon
the Bridge and [..] , the Deced floating
upon the furface the River, and did not Struggle
Says that he got a long Pole, and pushed
a small Boat or Pu [..] to the Deced, and
with the Assistance of John Barley< no role > got
the Deced into the Boat and pushed the
Boat to the Shore, in the Parish of St.
George Hanover Square , Deced appearing
to be dead, having been in the Water
about a Quarter of an hour Says that
he assisted to carrytothe Deced to the
Publick house, the Sign of the Marguiss of
Granby at the End of the Bridge , where
some of the Medical Gentlemen were
sent for and Dept. went away, and when
he returned he was informed that the Deced.
was given over for dead, Says that he
believes that the Noise he heard, was that of
the Deced falling into the River, but who there
the Deced Accidentally fell off the Bridge or
wilfully threw himself who the River this
Dept. cannot say.
