the Hospll of Bridewell signed by Mr Trear Sr Gabriel
Roberts

of these Hospll: and part of the Comitee aforesd: which Report
followeth in these words Vizt:

22 January 1701:

Bridewell
Hospll London}


This Comitte being mett pursuant to a standing order
of this Court whereby It was referred to them to consider of all
matters relateing to the said Hospll: and Prcinct and the good
Government thereof. Do Find

That Wm. Elsley< no role > Pirmaker an Artsmaster of this Hospll.
is by his age sickness of his wife decay of trade and other misfortunes
Reduced to a very low Condicon wth have rendered him Incapable of
going on with his trade not haveing any stock to Imploy his boys wth
being how four: And Chappell Wardens of this Hospll and Prcinct
now also attending and acquainting this Comitee That if they had
not assisted the said Elsley wth charity he and his Family must have
perished for want of Subsistance And that there is one George Langbridge< no role >
son in Law to the sd Elsley who now lives in the Prcinct in a house that
used to Lett at £16 Panum But the sd Langbridge being now a Watchman
to the sd Prcinct and no way able to pay a such a Rent haveing filled his sd
house wth Inmates to the great prudice of the Prcinct.
