Whereas it appeareth unto us Robert Bateman< no role > & Robert Constable< no role > Esqrs
two of his Majties Justices of the peace for the County of Midds (Quor unup)
residing nearest unto the Parrish Church of St. Dunstan Stepney in the Said
County, That Elizabeth Hooke< no role > Singlewoman was uppon the fifth Day
of May last past Delivered of a Male bastard child at the house of Joane
Hooke
< no role > widow in the hamlet of Wapping in the sd Parrish of Stepney , which
hath beene & is likely to Continue chargeable to the Sd hamlet, And Whereas
it appeareth unto us the Sd Justices as well by the Examinacon of the Said
Elizabeth Hooke uppon her Oath, That Richard Wilkins< no role > of the Minories London
Coardwainer had Diverse times the carnall knowledge of her body as alsoe
by the testimony of Abigail Joyce the Midwife who was prsent at the birth
of the Sd Male bastard child & delivered her thereof And also Severall
other witnesses who were also Prsent, That the Sd Elizabeth Hooke Did
in her Labour accuse the Sd Richard Wilkins< no role > to be the only father of the
Sd bastard child. Wee Doe therefore adjudge him the sd Richard
Wilkins
< no role > to be the only reputed father of the sd Male bastard child
And Doe order him the sd Richard Wilkins< no role > to pay or cause to be paid
unto the Churchwarden & Overseers of the poor of the Hamlet of Wapping
afforesd or to Some or one of them The Summe of Two pounds & tenn
Shillings of lawfull money of England on demand thereof, The Said
Summe being allready Disbursed & paid by the Said Churchwarden
towards the mantainance & keeping of the sd Male bastard child and
other necessary charges relating thereto, Alsoe wee Doe order the Sd
Richd Wilkins To pay or cause to be paid weekly & every weeke from
the Day of the date hereof unto the Sd Churchwarden & Overseers of
the Poor of the sd Hamlet And their Successors for the time being or
to Some or one of them For & towards the Keeping & bringing upp of the
Sd bastard child The Summe of two Shillings of like lawfull money
And the payment to Continue So long as the sd bastard child shall be a
charge to the Said Hamlet Except the sd Richard Wilkins< no role > shall
otherwise discharge the sd hamlet of Such charge & burthen as Shall
in any manner of wise accrewe thereunto for or by reason or meanes
of the sd Male bastard child. Given under our hands & Seales the
26th Day of June Anno pks Gulielm Pcy Angl Etc Duo decimo Annoqr
