he believes he received a Letter from the

that the same afternoon he delivered the
said Letter addressed to the said Melissa

either to herself or her Servant

And the said Melissa Mattinley< no role >
for herself says that on the 24th. of March
last she received a Letter from the said Mr.
Lane in closing her an Order for the
Payment of Fifteen Pound which said
Order she perfectly recollects was payable
to the said Mr. Lane but whether the Order
now produced is the same she cannot till
that about two or three days afterwards she
called at the Shop of the said Joseph Slack< no role >
in James Street< no role >
Long Acre
and being
indebted to him in the Sum of three
Guineas she gave him the Order for the
Payment of Fifteen Pounds which she
had received from the said Mr. Lane asking
him at the same time whether it was as
agreable to him to take that as a Bank
Note when the said Slack replied it was
equally so and then gave her the difference
amounting to eleven Pounds seventeen Shillings
