MIDDLESEX .

WHEREAS it appears to us, whose Hands and Seals are hereunto set,
two of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the county of Middlesex ,
(one of whom is of the Quorum) and both dwellings within, or next the Limits,
of the Parish Church of the Parish of Saint John , at Hackney , n the said county,
as well upon the complaint of the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of
the said Parish, as also by the Examination of Mary Paul< no role >
single Woman , taken in Writing, upon Oath, before us, and other Proofs, and
Circumstances, that she the said Mary Paul< no role >
was, on or about the Eight Day of March Last puts
delivered of a Male Bastard Child at the Workhouse of and in
the said Parish, which is still living, and chargeable to the said
Parish, and that one William Griffiths< no role > who lately asnd Servant with Mr Mathews
at High Wood near Hendon in the County of Middlesex and two Living as
servant with the [..] Mr Neale near whitstone Turnpike in
the said County is the Father of the said
Male Bastard Child. And whereas it appeareth unto us upon [..] the oath of James Griffiths< no role > Oath, that
the said William Griffiths< no role > hath been duly summoned to appear
before us this Day, to shew Cause why he should not be adjudged the reputed
Father of the Said Male Bastard Child: And the said William Griffiths< no role >
hath not appeared before us, pursuant to such Summons

We do therefore, on the Oath of the said Mary Paul< no role > that and
other Proofs and Circumstances,adjudge the same to be true, and, the said
Williams Griffiths< no role > is the reputed Father of the said Male Bastard
Child. And we do order, that the said William Griffiths< no role > do, on Sight of
this our order, pay, or cause to be paid, unto the present Churchwardens and
Overseers of to Poor of the said Parish of Saint John, at Hackney, or to either
of them, the sum of Nine Pounds twelve shillings
of lawful Money of Great Britain, so much being by them already expended
and laid out for,. and towards and Charges arising the the said Male Bastard
Child, being born in the said Parish, and for other necessary Expences occasioned
thereby; and that the said William Griffiths< no role > do also Weekly, and every Week,
from and after the Date hereof, so long as the said Male Bastard Child shall
be chargeable to the said Parish, pay, or cause to be paid, to the Church wardens
and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish for the Time being, or to either of them.
the Sum of Two Shillings and six pence of like Money, for, and to
wards the Maintaining, keeping, and Education of the said Male Bastard Child.
And we do hereby further order, that the said Mary Paul< no role > Shall
Nurse, keep, and take Care of the said Male Bastard Child, Given under
our Hands and Seals, this Twenty ninth Day of June
in the Year of our Lord one thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety eight
