The Order of John Floud< no role > and William
Brodie
< no role > Esquire two of his Majesty's Justices of
the Peace in and for the said County one whereof is
of the Quorum, and both residing next unto the Limits
of the Parish Church within the Parish of Saint Luke
in the said County of Middlesex
made the Twenty Sixth Day of October in
the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven
Hundred and Ninety eight
concerning a Male
Bastard Child, lately born in the Parish of Saint Luke
in theCounty of Middlesex aforesaid, of the Body of
Mary White< no role > Single Woman

WHEREAS it hath appeared unto us the said Justices, as well upon the Complaint
of the CHURCH Wardans and Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of
Saint Luke as upon the Oath of the said Mary white< no role >
that She the said Mary White< no role > on the Seventh Day of
October 1796 now last pastwas delivered of a Male Bastard Child, in
George Row in the said Parish of Saint Luke in the said
Countyand that the said Male Bastard Child isLikely to bechargeable
to the said Parish of Saint Luke and Further, that George Heffer< no role >
[..] of Lambeth in thesaid County of Surry Carpenter did deget the said
Bastard Child on the Body of her the said Mary White< no role > and Whereas
the said George Heffer< no role > hath appeard before us the said Justicesto
in order to make his defence to the Charge above contained but
not having shew any sufficient Cause to the contrary
We therefore, upon EXamination of the Caufe and Circumstance of the Premises,as
well upon the Oath of the said Mary White< no role > as otherwise, do hereby
adjudge him the said George Heffer< no role > to be the reputed Father of the
said Bastard Child.
And thereupon we do order, as well for the batter Relief of the said Parish of
Saint Luke as for the Sustentation and Relief of the said Bastard Child, that
the said George Heffer< no role > shall and do forthwith, upon Notice of this our Order,
pay or cause it to be paid to the said and Church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the
said Parish of Saint Luke or to Some or one of them, the Sum of four shillings
for and towardsthe Lying in of the said andthe Main-
tenance of the said Bastard Child, to the Time of making this our Order.
And we do also hereby further order, that the said George Heffer< no role > shall likewise
pay, or cause to be paid, to the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said
Parish of Saint Luke for the Time being, or to some or one of them, the Sum of
Two Shillings and Six Pence Weekly and every Week from the Present TIme, for and towards the
Keering, Sustentation, and Maintenance of the said Bastard Child, for and during So long
Time as the said Bastard Child Shall be Chargeable to the said Parish of Saint Luke
And We do further order, that the said Shall also pay
or cause to be Paid church Wardens and Overseers of the Poor of the said
for the Time being, or to Some or one of them, the Sum of
Weekly and every week, So long as the said Bastard Child
Shall be Chargeable to the said - in Cafe the Shall not nurse
and take care of the said Child herself.
