| Examination Text | The Examination of Mary Henderson in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of St. James within the liberty of Westminster taken upon oath this 14th Day of November 1765. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is about 25 years of age, that she never was married, that she was bound an apprentice for four years to Mrs Clipsey, a Clear Starcher in Dukes Court by Drury Lane in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields aforesaid and there served about one year and a half and then left her said service, that she never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor hath been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since she quitted the aforesaid service, And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that John Mears, a Driver of a Post Chaise to be heard of at the Plow in Princes Street in St. Anne's did beget her with child or children she now goeth with is pregnant of, and that he the said John Mears is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
