Southwark Depositions of Witnesses taken at the
parish of Saint John with in the Borough
of Southwark in the County of Surrey
the 11th. day of October 1790 on view of the
Body of John Turpin< no role > now here lying
dead

Thomas Bickner< no role > living with his Uncle the deced John Turpin< no role > of No 289
Kent Sheet in the Parish of Saint Mary Davington County of Surrey with in Borough of Southwark onmaketh
Oath that about the hour of one in the Afternoon of Saturday
last Dept. was comeing out of a Lighter laying at Hogarths
Wharf in the parish of Saint John within the Borough afsd.
he hit his head against a Cross Bar that fastens some gates
belonging to said Wharf which knocked Dept. back wards into
the River Thames -that his Uncle the deced being then upon
said Wharf next the River stooped down to pick Dept. up and descred
Dept. to lay hold os his hand light that whist the deced had
hold of Deponents hand he (the deced) fell into the River and
Dept called out for help that Dept. soon after lost his senses being
then in the water and recollects nothing more until some person
fellows came and put some thing, into the Water for Dept. to lay
hold of which Dept. did and was then taken out of the water by
one Mr. Jackson-that soon after Dept. saw his uncle the deced
laying in the [..] Barge Dept had fell from that Dept. went
afterwards to the Brown & sceptre publich house and there
found his Uncle (the deced) quite dead.
