Upon reading the Report of Simon Michell< no role > Robert Tothill< no role > and Andrew
Osborne
< no role > Esqrs . three of his Maties Justices of the peace of this County being a
Quorum of the Committee appointed by an Order made in February Sessions
last to take a view of the Room called the Felons Room in New prison at
Clerkenwell in this County and to take to their assistance Such able workman
Workmen as they should think fitt, and to see if the Floor or any other and
what part or parts of the said Felons Room was out of repaire and not of
Sufficient Strength for the safe custody of Prisoners, It appeareth to this
Court by the said Report that the said three Justices have viewed the said
Felons Room, and find that the boards of the floor are intirely broken
up and destroyed, and that some of the Ground Joysts are defective, and
that they are of opinion that some new Joysts be laid downe and the
floor new boarded, and that when the said Justices were at New prison
they were informed that in the Men's comon Ward between that and
Bridewell the partition is broken and holes made thro' the same, and that they
thereupon viewed the same and found it to be soe broken, and alsoe the
bottom part of the great gate leading into the prison to be rotten and decayed
occasioned in great measure by the raiseing of the road or way leading
thereto, This Court on consideracon of the said Report doth agree to the
Same, And doth Order that the repaires & matters therein specifyed which
are wanting and necessary to be done be effectually done and performed
in a Substantial and Workmanlike manner, and at reasonable prices under
the care and inspection of the said Committee named in the said Order
made in February Sessions last (vizt.) Simon Michell< no role > William Brooke< no role > Robert
Tothill
< no role > William Hayton< no role > Thomas Robe< no role > and Andrew Osborne< no role > Esqrs . Justices of
the peace for this County or any three or more of them, who are hereby
desired after the finishing of the repaires and matters aforesaid to view
the same, And see what the Workman or Workmen to be employed in
the doeing in writing touching the premisses to the Court of General
Quarter or General Sessions of the peace for this County.
