A C T
To

Enable the Justices of the Peace for the County of
Middlesex to raise Money, in Manner therein
mentioned, for erecting a House of Correction
within the said County.

WHEREAS the House of Correction for the Preamble
County of Middlesex is in a ruinous State, insecure,
and not large enough, or sufficiently airy, for the
Number of Prisoners usually confined therein, or
capable of answering the general Purposes of a
House of Correction :

And whereas His Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the said
County have fixed upon a Piece of Ground, where a proper and
commodious House of Correction may be built; but the Expence
of purchasing such Ground, and building such House of Correc-
tion, will amount to a very considerable Sum of Money, which,
if raised according to the Mode prescribed by the Laws in being
