Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of St. Mary-le-bone , in
County of Middlesex , send greeting. WHEREAS Samuel Durham< no role >
of Bloomsbury Square in the County of Middlesex
Yeoman
hath requested and desired of Us to accept, and take the Sum of Fiftin Pounds
and Fifteen Shilling for the Use of the Poor
of our said Parish of St. Mary-le-bone , in lieu, and stead of Security to indemnify and
save harmless our said Parish, of, and from the Charge of keeping and maintaining a Male
Bastard Child, born of the Body of Mary Buckland< no role > on the
Seventh day of October last in the said Parish of
St. Mary-le-bone , and baptised William< no role > and that WE,
the said William Morris< no role > and John Brown< no role >
upon the Charge and Maintenance of our said Parish, will put the said Male
Bastard Child. NOW THESE PRESENTS WITNESS, That We the said
William Merris< no role > and John Brown< no role >
for, and in consideration of the Sum of Fifteen Pounds and
Fifteen Shillings of lawful Money to Us, in Hand, paid by the said
Samuel Durham< no role > for the Use of the Poor of our said Parish
or St. Mary-le-bone , at His the said Samuel Durhams
own earnest Request and Desire, the Receipt whereof, WE do hereby acknowledge, and
Ourselves therewith fully satisfied, contented, and paid HAVE covenanted, undertaken,
promised and agreed, and by these Presents, DO covenant, undertake, promise and agree for
Ourselves and our Successors, to take and put the said Male
Bastard Child, upon the Charge and Maintenance of our said Parish, and provide for the
same in such Manner, that he the said Samuel Durham< no role >
shall not at any Time hereafter, be charged, molested, or disturbed, in any wife by Us the said
William Morris< no role > or John Brown< no role >
our Partners or Successors, or any or
either of them for upon touching, or concerning the maintaining clothing, educating or
providing for in any respect, and said Male- Bastard Child. In witness whereof,
We have hereunto set our Hands and seals, this Sixteenth day of April
17 94.
