Informations taken this Twenty seventh
day of February 1776 at the Parish of St,
George Hanover Square Within the Liberty of
Westmr. in the County of Midsex upon an
Inquisition touching the death of Henry
Charter
< no role > lying dead in the said Parish Liberty
and County.

Samuel Saltmash< no role > a Lodger at John Crawley< no role > in
Gray Street in the Parish of St. Mary le bone
Bricklayer on his Oath saith that on Sunday last,
(February 25th.) between One and two o'Clock, Dept.
was Walking in Hyde Park towards Harrington
at the Head of the Serpentine River in the Parish
of St. George Hanover Square , Says that he had a
New found land Dog with him, and on Depts. thriving
a Stone into the Serpentine Rever the Dog Went
into the Water, and brought out a Man's That
Says that the he sent the Dog into the River again
and the dog brought out a Man's Wig, That the
Dog went in again and pulled the Deced up
into Sight in the Water, the Body Sinking the Dog
David several times but could not get held of the
Body, upon which Dept. fetched a Boat there and
after Some time found the Body in about fourteen
feet Water, being about fifty Yards from the
Head of the River and about thirty Yards from
the Shore in the Parish of St. George Hanover Square
Says that he get hold of Deced's Cloaths and Towed
him to Shore in the Parish of St. George Hanr. Square
Says that the Deced appeared to have been long
Drowned, Says that the Deced was laid down near
the River side, That he Searched the Deced's
Pockets and in one of his Breeches Pockets he
found two Six pences and three Penny worth of
half pence, Says that the Deced had Silver Bucks
in his Shoes, and Silver Buttons on his Coat
Says that Several People were then Present, and
that he observed no Marks of violence upon the
Deced.
