Informations of Witnesses taken at the parish of Saint
Bartholomew the less in the Ward of Farringdon
without in London the 12th. day of August
1788 on view of the body of William Jones< no role >
then and there lying dead

William Goodneath< no role > of No. 8 Green Arbor Court Lambeth
hill London labourer maketh oath that on the 30th. July last as Dept
belives Dept together with John Wesson and the deced all fellow servants
were returning from Camberwell Green with two coal Carts; that by the
comes of the Green they met with a man whom was called Jack who
was also going with a Coal Cart to Town; that they [..] deced
and said Jack played together, shoving each other and running about
That the deced pushed said Jack and run from him and jumped into one
of the Carts, that Jack followed him and caught some water in his hat
from an Horse Trough and threw it over the dead, That such then ran
away & the deced leaped from the Cart and ran after him but could not
catch him That the deced returned and took Jacks whip out of the
Cart and broke it That pick came up to save his Whip and directly the
deced struck him with the handle end on the headthattwice That they
then closed on each other and fought together That Dept & Wsson went
on with the Carts about three are yards & then slopped. That in the
course of the fight they losh fell down twice, together and in the last
round Jack struck the deced down with a flowDeponent nearas Dept believes
asartle right eye That the deced then would fight no Cryer, and both he and
Jack run after the Carts and came up with them That the deced
complained of his Thomas being hurt That all of them (the deced & Inch)
dopped at Walworth and drank together That one of the deceds eyes
was much swollen That after this the deced continued in his work as
usual for two days and an half & then complained of his head & could
work no longer
