| Examination Text | The Examination of Ann North in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of St. James within the liberty of Westminster taken upon oath this 16th Day of December 1765. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 22 years of age, that she never was married, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Hunt in George Street in York Buildings in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields aforesaid for the space of one year and eight months at the yearly wages of 6 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same the 19th November 1763, that she never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor hath been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, And this Examinant on her oath further saith that she was on the first Day of December in the year 1764 delivered at the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields aforesaid of a female bastard Child (since christened Elizabeth) yet living and now passed with this Examinant from the Parish of St. James aforesaid, and is become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that Joseph Galloway, a Peruke Maker (but where he now is she this Examinant cannot tell) did beget on her body the said female bastard child, and that he the said Joseph Galloway is the true and only father thereof and no man else.
