Examination Text | Catherine Clayton aged 42 years in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of St. James within the liberty of Westminster upon her oath saith that she is the wife of George Clayton (a pensioner in Chelsea Hospital) to whom she was married at the Parish Church in Stockport in the County of Chester 20 years ago, that her said husband lived in and rented an public house known by the sign of the Black Swan in that part of Exeter Street which is in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields aforesaid for the space of nine months at the yearly rent of 40 pounds besides taxes, quitted the same about five years ago, that her said husband hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes since. Sworn the 18th Day of December 1767 before Peter Planck. |
