Examination TextSarah Davis aged about 29 years in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of St. James within the liberty of Westminster upon her said that she is the wife of John Davis (now the workhouse aforesaid) to whom she was married at May Fair Chapel nine years ago, that he is a Bricklayer by trade and was bound an apprentice by an indenture for seven years to Richard Norris a Bricklayer in Water Lane in the Parish of St Anne Black Fryers London and there served about five years, and this Examinant saith that he said her said husband hath informed this Examinant that he was turned over to Mr Joseph Pearce, a Bricklayer in York Buildings in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and there served one year, the remainder of his apprenticeship, that he never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes, that she hath three children living by her said husband to wit Elizabeth aged five years, Thomas aged three years and upwards, and Sarah aged eight months all now in the workhouse aforesaid. Sworn the 23rd Day of December 1756 before Benjamin Cox.
